It is safe to say that my face often draws the short straw when it comes to skincare; it gets blasted by the cold, wind and rain outdoors, dried out from my central heating at home and burnt by the sun, so I daren’t imagine what wearing makeup all day must do to it! Aside from looking and feeling dull I also have combination skin which is typically dry on my cheeks and slightly oily on my nose, so finding a face mask that targets both can be tricky.

I very rarely use face masks as my daily routine involves removing the makeup I’ve had on all day with a face wipe before bed, and of the mud masks and packs that I have used in the past some have left my skin feeling more oily, are lumpy, messy and irritating to scrub off once dried in: queue the Forever Living Marine Mask! The mask claims to be deep cleansing with natural minerals, sea kelp, algae, aloe vera, honey and cucumber helping to cleanse, balance, moisturise, condition and refresh the skin. It sounds good, but how will it perform on the face test? To the bathroom to find out!

Squeezing the cool gel onto my finger I was surprised at how translucent and natural it looked; when I think of face masks I generally picture a white clay-like substance, or a messy lumpy mud explosion that you have to grit over your face which then cracks and flakes across the floor as it dries. It was a pleasure to wipe the cool soothing pale green gel across my skin which instantly felt fresh, soothing and slightly tingly. It managed to stay cool and fresh drawing the heat out of my skin much like when you place a cold flannel over a burning tension headache, my skin felt lifted and clean as soon as the smooth gel made contact. It has a very luxurious and professional feeling thick gel texture to it which doesn’t scratch, harden or go powdery like most face masks. It doesn’t cake on the skin, go lumpy or tight and is very relaxing and clean to wear.

The mask takes between 15-20 minutes to dry depending on how much is applied, in which time the gel just disappears and absorbs right into the skin completely, leaving a firm and flawless waxwork complexion. After I rinsed it off with warm water my skin felt so soft without being wet, and smooth without being oily. It’s what I would imagine an undamaged face feels like, similar to touching the skin of a fresh peach, incredibly clean and healthy without any grease or dryness. And the best part is that it can be used twice a week; I’m almost disappointed that I have to wait to use it again!
