When it comes to makeup I’m a bit of a tomboy as I’m sure you can tell. My single-parent lifestyle is far more suited to trainers and tracksuits than tinsel and tiaras, yet when my red carpet invite arrived for the film premiere of Gangsters Geezers Gamblers in London’s Leicester Square I knew I needed an expert touch in order to look my best – cue make-up artist to the stars Hayley Gibson and her magic wand beautiful brushes!

Hayley is a professionally trained make-up artist based in Buckinghamshire with several years experience in film, editorial, bridal and TV makeup both in the UK and overseas putting my mind at ease that she could polish me up a treat to have me looking and feeling my best for such a glamourous event. I’m a fairly natural girl given that I don’t like to wear too much makeup day-to-day so I wanted to feel comfortable with a look that suited me and would need zero maintenance throughout the evening because I’m not into touching up lipstick or removing mascara smudges in the toilet mirror every half an hour. During a brief chat on the phone with Hayley we were able to come up with a look that would be both manageable and minimal to suit my outfit which was a short black dress, knee high boots and statement necklace. As my hair is fine, flat, flyaway and goes crazy with any sign of humidity we agreed on some soft beach curls to add volume teamed with a statement winged eyeliner, bare face and nude lip – basically a more perfect and longer lasting version of how I would attempt to do my own makeup for a night out.

I didn’t want false lashes, hair extensions or layers and layers of contoured foundation that would crack, cake and make me look wrinkled on camera so Hayley created a natural dewy base which covered the dark circles on my eyes and left my skin looking fresh, smooth and healthy the entire evening. With a little bronzer and highlighter she made my eyes and cheekbones pop along with defining my brows and accentuating my lashes with the most precise eyeliner I’ve ever seen and a lick of mascara for depth. I had a lovely time chatting to Hayley in my kitchen as she primped and preened my hair and makeup in under and hour and couldn’t wipe the smile from my face when I had my very own Cinderella moment as I saw myself in the mirror when my transformation was complete.
Hayley gave me just the sparkle I needed for the red carpet and made me feel on top of the world with a glamourous yet natural look that left me feeling beautiful and still recognisable. And because of the professional – and jaw-droppingly expensive – products she used my makeup remained flawless and in place for more than 10hrs of partying which left my clutch bag conveniently empty for the first time ever.
