The Hospital Bra

I am scheduled to have my second breast augmentation in four days time, after having had a breast enlargement to take my cup size to a DD at the age of eighteen, breastfeeding two children and losing natural tissue at the age of twenty five, I will now be going to an F/G cup. Being a UK8 in size I generally find it a bit of a challenge to buy 30DD bras on the highstreet, it’s either an extremely popular size that sells out immediately, or one that is hardly ever sold and therefore rarely stocked. I see plenty of 30A’s, 34C’s or 38D’s but never 30DD’s; therefore more often than not I whimper as I walk past the beautiful lingerie on hangers and resort to purchase from online stores for underwear that I can’t examine or inspect for quality.

I have been informed by my surgeon, as I was when I had my first breast augmentation, that I will need a supportive material bra to wear after theatre. So if finding a normal bra wasn’t difficult enough, then finding a surgery-suitable bra was even harder and last time I had to resort to ordering a non-underwired sports bra online which was the only thing vaguely suitable. It proved difficult to tend to my bandages and stitches beneath as the only way to remove the bra was to lift my arms above my head and squeeze out of it which involved a lot of help and was quite frankly agony to put it lightly.

So when I came across the Hospital Bra by gorgeous lingerie online just days before my second surgery I know that all of my Christmases have come at once and I won’t have to go through the horrendous sports bra ordeal again!

The write up on the Hospital Bra website states:
“The original bamboo ‘Hospital Bra’ is a post surgical antibacterial concept compression bra. With unique support and ultra comfort.
Post Operative Compression Garments are a vital part of the recovery process. A high quality, properly fitted post operative compression garment can aid in body contouring and skin retraction while helping to reduce swelling and flushing your body of potentially harmful fluids. Compression cups are also very important for your comfort. In addition to reducing swelling immediately after the procedure, the compression provided by the garment makes you much more comfortable during the healing process.

These compression cups are also designed to help shock absorb the tenderness and pain you may incur after surgery. Our bras have been worn and tested by real women after having surgery.
The Hospital Bra can be worn immediately after all surgical procedures and treatment.

It is such a relief knowing what I will be going through after the surgery and the little movement that I will have throughout healing; but this time rather than struggling to change my dressing and clean myself, both I and my surgeon can have easy access, comfortable movement and proper support from the Hospital Bra. A sports bra is designed for sports and not surgery, and although I wore one last time it was kind of like using a blowtorch to cook your dinner; it works in a similar way but isn’t intended for the same purpose, so it’s a relief to have found this little wonder just before my surgery so that I can be properly protected throughout.

UPDATE: 22/04/13 Surgery Day

Today I had my second breast surgery and wore the Hospital Bra once my drains were removed, and it has been such a treat! It’s incredibly soft and comfortable, the fabric is breathable so you don’t get clammy or sweat and you can literally adjust every inch of it. I started off with the bra on the widest settings for the straps and centre fastening and adjusted it inwards until I had the correct level of support. I now only have two tissue pads over my scars from where the drains were removed and the bra has done the rest for me, no bandages, no extra padding or tape, it’s so incredibly comfortable. I’m now walking around at home just eighteen hours after my surgery and I can go to the toilet by myself as I’m properly supported so I don’t get faint or dizzy. It was so much easier to put the Hospital Bra on than even my normal wear bras or a sports bra because you can fasten it from every angle, which gave me the freedom to manoeuvre each breast into the right position without limitation.

The Hospital Bra fits beautifully under my clothes without looking too surgical or grannified and I can keep it on until the healing is complete. It looks good, it feels great and it gives me the support I need at this delicate time, which in turn has made my experience so much easier to manage and live with this time around. When you’ve undergone a surgery the last thing you want is chaffing or discomfort on a raw wound, but thanks to the Hospital Bra I’m completely comfortable and free to get on with my day. Who’d have thought I had surgery not even twenty-four hours ago! Amazing!
