Georganics Eco Friendly Oral Hygiene

With Veganuary upon us, these first thirty days of the year are a time for resolutions to turn towards being cruelty-free and environmentally kind which is wonderful to see so many eco-friendly, plant-based brands making a true difference with their innovative products.

Whilst I have for many years quite happily brushed with a round-head electric toothbrush and whitening toothpaste via TV advert recommendations, you could say that I was totally oblivious to this daily routine being anything more or less than what it always has been for me.

After the addition of the Georagincs range to my routine I am wholeheartedly surprised by the effectiveness and results of my brushing experience and would never revert back to electric and commercial pastes, here’s why…

Georganics Eco Friendly Oral Hygiene

Georganics pride themselves on creating safe, effective and sustainable oral care products that are both good for the people and the planet. Working closely with nature they source organic ingredients with a natural and conscientious core value that resonates deeply with me and I couldn’t wait to sample their vegan-friendly range.

Eco Beechwood Toothbrush

Starting things off let’s take a look at their eco-friendly adults soft bristle toothbrush. Its handle is made from sustainable FSC Beechwood and is suitable for home composting as it is recommended that you replace your toothbrush every two months.

Each tree which is cut down to make this product is re-planted with excess material used to heat the factory. Made in Germany, the soft Charcoal BPA-free nylon bristles remove plaque and tartar effectively without damaging the gum line.

It is recommended that you brush at a 45 degree angle in short strokes from the gum line downward. It is best to angle up for top teeth angle angle down for bottom teeth, beginning from the outside of the tooth, then moving to the inside. Finishing on chewing surfaces, hold the brush flat and brush back and forth before rinsing with water and storing the clean brush upright to dry.

This brush could not be further opposing to my regular electric round-head firm bristle brush which buffs and polishes my teeth whilst seemingly skimming over any gaps and the gum line. Using the beechwood brush was an unusual sensation at first as I could taste the handle which has an almost savoury taste, not quite salty, which was rather pleasant and unexpected.

To begin with I didn’t think that soft bristles would be strong enough to clean my teeth properly, but they were far more effective at getting into gaps and small spaces than my rigid plastic round-head brush which is often prevented from accessing small spaces; because of this I felt that the everyday activity of brushing my teeth had performed above and beyond the regular level of cleanliness and this is a noticeable difference for which I would struggle to return to electric brushing.

(From Far Left) Georganics Activated Charcoal Toothpaste Powder, Natural Beechwood Toothbrush, Euclyptus Natural Toothpaste, English Peppermint Natural Toothsoap

Activated Charcoal Toothpaste Powder

This is a mineral toothpaste blended with Activated Charcoal and flavoured with organic Peppermint Oil for a refreshing flavour. Peppermint Oil is extremely effective at killing anaerobic bacteria, which left untreated causes gum disease; this is a great alternative to conventional whitening toothpastes as it naturally remove surface stains without being harsh or abrasive to the teeth.

Comprised of Calcium Carbonate, Kaolin Clay, Organic Shea Butter, Organic Fractionated Coconut Oil, Diatomaceous Earth, Sodium Bicarbonate, Organic Peppermint Oil, Activated Charcoal Powder, Vitamin E and Organic Virgin Coconut Oil; just a pea-sized amount is needed on the brush to be effective.

It is recommended that you brush for two minutes before rinsing well, avoiding water from entering the jar. This natural whitening toothpaste can be stored in a dry place for up to 12 months after opening.

This was my first attempt at using charcoal powder and I wasn’t quite prepared for the mess that it makes if you shake the brush or brush with your lips parted. It was yet again an unfamiliar sensation as the powder isn’t thick or foamy like a traditional toothpaste and didn’t appear to have any flavour but nonetheless left my teeth, mouth and tongue feeling adequately clean.

Yet another unfamiliar experience for me was seeing my teeth and gums turn black as I brushed, however knowing that the natural charcoal powder has whitening qualities this has helped me to justify leaning over the sink to brush so that I may catch any specs of black powder that fall into the sink.

Eucalyptus Toothpaste Powder

Another natural whitening toothpowder is this eucalyptus powder which works by absorbing and polishing away stains and plaque that naturally form on the teeth. It’s safe and speedy formula is comprised of Sodium Bicarbonate, Calcium Carbonate, Diatomaceous Earth, Magnesium Carbonate, Tartaric Acid, Organic Eucalyptus Leaf Oil, Vitamin E and Dicalcium Phosphate without the use of any chemicals, peroxides or synthetic flavourings.

Georganics Vegan-Friendly Whitening Toothpaste Range

Instead this tooth-powder is flavoured with organic Eucalyptus essential oil for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties as the oil helps to fight germs that cause bad odour whilst also providing a refreshing and cooling sensation.

It is recommended that you dip a clean toothbrush into the powder and brush for 2 minutes before rinsing well with water and storing the tooth-powder in a dry place up to 12 months after opening.

The eucalyptus toothpaste powder, whilst thicker than toothpaste and non-foaming, it is instantly refreshing and cleansing making the mouth feel extensively clean which I haven’t felt to the same degree from a commercial toothpaste before.

The powder left my teeth and mouth feeling pampered, much like a spa treatment as opposed to the usual nonchalant experience of brushing with toothpaste. After rinsing with water it feels as though my mouth has been rinsed with a gentle mouthwash without any stinging or irritation caused by traditional mouthwashes. The eucalyptus powder is wonderfully refreshing and makes brushing a wonderfully relaxing experience.

English Peppermint Natural Toothsoap

Finally I also have the English Peppermint natural toothsoap which is a completely natural way to brush your teeth. Made entirely from the non-toxic ingredients Organic Olive Oil, Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, Organic Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter it is flavoured with essential Peppermint Oil allowing the tooth these 100% natural nutrients without coating the surface.

It is recommended that you apply the toothsoap to your toothbrush by rubbing wet bristles onto the soap stick in circular motions before brushing for 2 minutes and rinsing well with water.

Yet again, using toothsoap is another first for me and this was the most toothpaste-like sensation even though the soap is nothing like a paste. With a light foamy lather, this refreshingly uplifting soap is incredibly easy to work around the mouth and reaches every nook and crook leaving the teeth, cheeks and tongue feeling beautifully refreshed and clean, similar to visiting the hygienist for how you want to run your tongue across your squeaky-clean teeth after.

All in all, I had never viewed my daily brushing regime as anything more than an essential chore and dare I say, inconvenience? Georganics have forever changed how I spend my two minutes at the sink every morning and evening and I’m all the more clean, happy and healthy for it!
