BodyPowerExpo2015 Birmingham NEC

Since becoming a parent I’ve found such a love for fitness, which started with the desire to lose weight after giving birth to my two children and then became a healthy lifestyle and positive outlook on life. Once I reached my pre-pregnancy weight I didn’t want to stop working out and being active because I enjoyed it so much and feel so much better in mind, body and soul when I keep fit. I sleep better, eat more healthily, have more energy and ability and my strength, flexibility and stamina has never been so good as it is now. The majority of the time I workout from home as a single parent without childcare, but occasionally I visit the gym to train for charity events that I take part in. The BodyPowerExpo 2015 is the first bodybuilding exhibition I’ve ever been to and it opened my eyes even wider to the fitness industry whilst teaching me so much.

The 7th BodyPowerExpo was held over three days at the Birmingham NEC whereby 79,274 visitors from across the globe attended. It’s become one of the worlds biggest annual fitness pilgrimages where idols such as Hulk Hogan, Steve Cook, Phil Heath, Lorraine Pascale, Brian Shaw, Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler all top the bill, and year on year the event continues to grow at an extraordinary rate. With a live cooking kitchen, fitness model competition, kickboxing, Parkour, bodybuilding and strongman on offer amongst 600,000 square feet of occupied floor space, the exhibition clearly pushes the boundaries over how much of the fitness spectrum can be showcased under the one roof.

Wandering amongst the stands I had the biggest smile on my face as everybody was so cheerful, upbeat, energetic and in incredible shape. The music pumped, live workout demonstrations were held across the floor and nutrition advisors, personal trainers, fitness competitors, clothing brands and celebrities were on hand to give advice, tips and find the correct product to suit your needs. I attended with the aim to find a premium source of protein for vegetarian muscle recovery, to find a workout to increase my upper body strength which is something that I really struggle with, and to find fitness apparel that looks good and keeps my rather ample assets supported during high impact exercise and flexible movements. And very quickly I found the answer to my questions and so much more.

The biggest thing that I will take away from attending this event is the pure motivation it has given me to achieve my fitness goals, to see such idols in the industry and realise that anything is achievable so long as you’re willing to work hard enough for it. There was no cattiness, no showing off or snobbery, as everybody who was there, big or small, tall or short, old or young, all shared the same outlook to lead a healthy active life, and it had such a positive and upbeat fit-family feel good vibe to it. People congratulated one another on their achievements, compared stats, recommended their favourite brands and met hundreds others who think the same way offering tips and products to compliment and complete their fitness goals.

There were a huge range of free samples available from the 350 exhibitors, competitions, exclusive discounts on fitness and nutrition products and the opportunity to have autographs and photos taken with idols and athletes including Flex Lewis, Steve Cook, Zoe Smith, Calum Van Moger, Shaun Stafford, Dana Linn Bailey, Kai Green and many, many more. Calum Best attended the Best Life booth, and Lorraine Pascale fronted the Healthy Eating Kitchen showing visitors the secret to healthy recipe success. Hulk Hogan appeared in the Super Theatre as the exhibition erupted with cheers whilst he spent time in the VIP signing booth meeting fans who had queued for hours. BodyPowerExpo is certainly the place to be for anyone interested in fitness, nutrition and sport and I’m buzzing with enthusiasm for a better informed more consistent fitness regime and healthy lifestyle because of it. I’ll certainly be booking my ticket for next year!
