Why Is Everyone’s Gut Screaming? How I Finally Found Peace As A GF, Dairy-Free Vegan

Have you noticed how almost everyone seems to be dealing with some sort of tummy trouble lately? Whether it’s post-lunch bloating, unexplained fatigue, or that sudden, urgent need to find a bathroom, digestive issues have quietly become the common denominator of our modern life.

As someone living with IBS and multiple food intolerances, navigating the world as a strict gluten-free, dairy-free vegan, I know the struggle all too well. For years, eating felt like playing a high-stakes game of roulette that often left me in agony and house bound. But before diving into how I turned things around, let’s talk about why so many of us are suffering right now.

Why Are Our Guts Fighting Back?

Digestive health isn’t just about processing food, as our gut houses roughly 70% of our immune system and trillions of bacteria that make up our microbiome. When that delicate balance gets disrupted, things go south quickly.

Digestive complaints are literally skyrocketing, worldwide, because of our modern food landscape. Convenience foods are loaded with artificial emulsifiers, refined sugars, synthetic preservatives, and seed oils, which disrupt the gut barrier, causing low-grade inflammation.

Wheat and dairy processing techniques have changed drastically over the past century, making them far harder for us to break down. Even healthy plant-based meals can secretly harbour high-FODMAP ingredients like heavy garlic, onion, or additives that trigger severe bloating.

And eating quickly while stressed puts our body in a fight or flight state, shutting down proper enzyme production and slowing our gut motility. How often have you grabbed lunch on the go or quickly finished a meal in order to make a meeting in time?

    Symptoms We Shouldn’t Live With

It’s easy for us to normalise feeling off, but our body uses symptoms to send us clear messages. Key red flags include persistent bloating and feeling painfully full shortly after having a meal. Alternating between sluggish digestion and the sudden urgency to go.

Gut inflammation also directly affects brain chemistry via the gut-brain axis causing us to experience bran fog and fatigue. And unexplained skin flares and joint aches are often a secondary response to a compromised intestinal lining, which is also known as leaky gut.

    Finding Comfort, Not Chaos

When I cut out gluten, dairy, and all animal products, finding convenience food that didn’t trigger an IBS flare up was almost impossible. So many pre-made meals use cheap fillers, excessive onion powder, or artificial thickeners that leave me doubled over on the sofa an hour later.

That’s why finding meals specifically designed around gut sensitivity absolutely changed the game for me. On days when my stomach feels extra delicate, or I just want something warm and deeply soothing without risking a flare-up, I turn to No Bloat, for which I adore their Vegetable Risotto.

100% gut friendly and natural, the rice and vegetables mix has a delicious herb seasoning and is a great source of protein, with no artificial additives, flavours or preservatives. Being low FODMAP, low in saturated fat and fortified with vitamin B12, each single serving sachet contains just 176 calories.

What I love about their entire thoughtful range, is it gives you all of the rich, hearty satisfaction of classic comfort dishes, whilst being tailored specifically for sensitive digestive systems. Their meal sachets fit seamlessly into my gluten-free, dairy-free, plant-based diet without forcing me to compromise on flavour or read a tiny print label to search for hidden triggers.

I simply add boiling water to the fill line, reseal the pouch and leave it to stand for 8-10mins. And as I like my meals to be a different consistency day to day, I can control the amount of water added to the sachet make it more thick and creamy in the winter and loose and juicy in the summer.

Using delicious, simple and gentle ingredients, we can transform our daily meals by lowering digestive stress without compromising on the enjoyment of what’s on our plate. Healing our gut isn’t about extreme restriction forever, but removing the noise, giving our system a break from harsh additives, and nourishing it with food that works with your body, not against it.

If your stomach has been acting up lately, please listen to it. Take a step back from heavily processed convenience options, simplify your ingredients, and give yourself permission to choose meals that bring pure comfort without the painful aftermath.
