The quest for eternal youth is as old as time, but the methods in which we seek it are constantly evolving. While Botox injections have been a staple in cosmetic procedures for many years now, a new trend is emerging: “Baby Botox.” This lighter-touch approach promises to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles while importantly preserving your natural facial expressions, making it a tempting option for those who are seeking a more subtle refresh minus the freeze. I have never liked the options of looking either fake or old – I choose to be naturally youthful!

What Is Baby Botox?
Essentially, baby Botox involves injecting smaller doses of botulinum toxin into targeted areas of the face. This contrasts with traditional Botox, which uses larger doses to paralyse muscles more completely. The goal of baby Botox isn’t to eliminate all movement entirely, but rather to soften the muscle contractions that cause fine lines and wrinkles, resulting in a more relaxed and youthful appearance whilst still looking like yourself, just fresher.
Why The Rise In Popularity?
Several factors have contributed to the growing popularity of baby Botox:
- More Natural-Looking Results: The biggest draw is the ability to maintain your natural facial expressions. No more “frozen” foreheads or difficulty conveying your emotions. Baby Botox allows for subtle adjustments that smooth out wrinkles without sacrificing your authentic self
- Preventative Approach: Many younger individuals are turning to baby Botox as a preventative measure. By relaxing muscles before deep wrinkles are able to form, you can delay the signs of ageing more effectively
- Reduced Risk of an “Overdone Look”: The fear of looking fake is a major concern for many considering Botox. Baby Botox’s lighter touch minimises this risk, making it appealing to those who prefer a more understated approach or a natural freshness without the face being obviously altered
- Social media influence: People are becoming more aware of cosmetic treatments, and the signs of overdone procedures which are less fashionable than in previous years. Baby botox offers a less obvious approach to aesthetics and is therefore more appealing at present

Who Is Baby Botox For?
Baby Botox is suitable for a wide range of individuals, including:
- Those in their late 20s or early 30s who are looking to prevent the formation of deep wrinkles
- Individuals who want to soften existing fine lines and wrinkles without drastically altering their appearance
- People who are new to Botox and want to start small with a more conservative approach
- Those who have had traditional botox, and want to reduce the frequency of their treatments, or soften the frozen-looking effects to appear more natural
Important Considerations:
While baby Botox offers many benefits, it’s important to remember:
- Find a Qualified Practitioner: Choose a doctor, certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon with experience in administering baby Botox. Proper placement and dosage are essential for achieving natural-looking result
- Realistic Expectations: Baby Botox will soften your wrinkles, but may not eliminate them entirely. It’s essential to have realistic expectations and understand the limitations of the procedure to achieve natural results
- Maintenance: Baby Botox typically lasts for a shorter period than traditional Botox, requiring more frequent touch-ups
- Cost: While individual treatments may be less expensive than full-dose Botox, there is the need for more frequent appointments

My First Baby Botox Treatment At Vie Aesthetics
Today I had Baby Botox with Dr Ioannis Liakas (MSc, BCAM, FRCP, MBBS) at Vie Aesthetics in their Rayleigh, Essex clinic. I have been coming to Vie Aesthetics for many years now due to their expertise and individually tailored approach to beauty and anti-ageing. But it’s been a few years since I last had botox. Anti-wrinkle injections had once been such a structured part of my beauty regime throughout my twenties and early thirties. As I creep tentatively into my late thirties, I’ve had the most cathartic experience of undoing, or even removing, the majority of my previously high-maintenance appearance and much prefer a more natural and understated approach to beauty as I age.
Gone are the hair, nail and lash extensions, which were once in place of my natural nails and locks as I choose to consciously love, nourish and nurture what I naturally have, for as long as I am blessed to have it. Rather than cover what makes me an individual with a weft, acrylics or infills, I choose to look as nature intended. Beauty, as with life, is such a personal choice and we are each on our own individual journey with it. There is no one size fits all when it comes to what makes a person look and feel their most beautiful, but I’ve discovered over time that my personal views and preferences on beauty have changed quite remarkably and it’s what feels right for me.
Growing up, I loved blue eyeliner, over plucked eyebrows and purple eyeshadow, in my twenties I wore inches of makeup – and still reapplied more throughout the day! Today I appreciate a fresh face and bare skin, with just a slick of lipgloss or a neutral toned eyeshadow for a gentle, fresh and polished look. In years to come I may embrace a goth era, revisit my youth or decide to dip a toe into whatever the latest fashion trends may be; but today, as a mother of two and Buddhist, I really love just waking up and brushing my hair, popping on some gym wear and being active without the concerns of smudging my makeup or matching my nails to my bag anymore.

Seeing as I haven’t had Botox for some years now, I have developed resting lines on my forehead for the first time in over half a decade. Whilst I’ve loved the softer, more natural look of having full facial expressions and movement, I’ve also tried holistic approaches to soften the fine lines and wrinkles in my upper face with anti-ageing creams, red light therapy and EMS which have certainly helped, but not removed my resting lines entirely. These resting lines are the deep lines that naturally stay on the face you’re not smiling or frowning or showing expression and they run horizontally across my forehead and vertically between my eyebrows.
When I heard about Baby Botox, it caught my interest due to the fact that it accommodates for the conscious shift towards a more subtle and preventative approach to aesthetic procedures. This smaller dose offers a way to maintain a youthful appearance without sacrificing my natural expressions, or making me look like an entirely different person. I am still me, but I look as though I get at least 8hrs sleep a night, and can wake up looking just as fresh as when I go to sleep.
We all have days when we may feel better or worse than others. Typically at the end of a long day, if I’m dehydrated, tired or feeling a little under the weather, I catch a glimpse in the mirror of a worn out mother and just want to give her a hug, pour her a cup of green tea and tell her to go and put her feet up. Compared to days when you’re pleasantly surprised by the glowing girl staring back at you in the mirror, a vision of health when her skin looks fresh, her hair is glossy and you’d think she’d wound the clock back several years. When we treat ourselves with self-love and care, it’s not selfish, it’s essential to loving ourselves and being the most enthusiastic and outgoing versions of ourselves, which ultimately has a ripple effect towards those around us. When we look good, we feel good, we’re more sociable, cheerful, patient, fun and enjoyable to be around and so we flourish in all aspects of life.

And so today, I got my sparkle back with Baby Botox, by steaming out a few fine lines and wrinkles whilst still maintaining my natural and low-maintenance personal preference for beauty. As far as the treatment is concerned, it feels exactly the same as having regular Botox, but less product is used and so the results are not as obvious. Instead of looking frozen and unable to move my face, I am more chilled as the lines are softened to look naturally youthful. The needle is ultra fine and short, targeting the superficial layers of the skin to cause a small scratch to the surface which takes less than a second to administer at each injection site. A scattering of injections are placed between the eyebrows and evenly across the forehead – depending on where you facial muscles sit – and aside from the immediate, and momentary, swelling and redness at the injection sites, within an hour the treatment is entirely undetectable and I can return to my day.
Having Baby Botox is a way for me to prevent deeper resting lines from forming without losing the ability to convey facial expressions and emotion. I wouldn’t want to make one area of my body look super young whilst the rest of me continues to age and look out of place. A subtle tweak here and there allows me to hit pause, and perhaps rewind on the clock, to enjoy a more naturally youthful appearance in keeping with my overall skin condition and complexion to be somewhat undetectable. Baby Botox is the perfect bridge between youth and wisdom!
Whilst my results may start to show between 2-3 days after my treatment, their maximum effect will be evident in about 14 days. Results may typically last around 3-4 months, but everyone is unique so this may vary. My first treatment today was a little more than my top-up’s will be, in order to initially target my deep resting lines, but going forward it will be a lesser dose simply for maintenance. I’m so pleased that the beauty industry has progressed towards celebrating a more natural form of beauty so that it no longer has to be an all-or-nothing approach when it comes to aesthetics. I love that you can be as naturally youthful as you choose to be, or as glam and goddess-like as your heart desires, because that’s the true beauty of being you!

Reflecting Upon My Before & After Results
I’m absolutely thrilled with my before and after results which gradually started to show from the morning after my treatment. My deep resting lines have popped out to reveal smooth skin, much like steaming the creases from a blouse to look that little more pristine and presentable.
The main difference that I notice for this treatment is the way that I can still smile and frown freely with movement to my face. My forehead lines have been removed when I look directly upward, which I know were previously excessive, as I’d have several deep and long lines across the entire width of my forehead. Now I have just a few soft lines above my eyebrows when looking directly up – which isn’t something that I tend to do very often and may be the only giveaway that I’ve had Baby Botox.

I like that I can still crinkle up and crease my face to an extent, and that I’m not frozen entirely, as I believe that it’s important to be able to convey emotion through facial expressions and not appear to have had work done. With the passing months my results will continue to soften until my resting lines gradually creep back in, as I focus on my daily skincare and anti-ageing regime of micro-needling, using a quality hyaluronic acid each day and protecting my skin against sun damage with the warmer afternoons upon us this springtime.
My next Baby Botox treatment will be a lower dose than this for maintenance, in order to increase the longevity of a natural, youthful complexion as I’m really happy to upkeep these results. The most subtle tweaks can make a world of difference to our appearance, and I’ve always been told that the sign of an amazing practitioner is no sign of their work at all. Vie Aesthetics have exceeded my expectations once again to achieve such beautifully natural results, and have provided me with the perfect bridge between a low-maintenance active appearance and longterm, sympathetic anti-ageing solutions.
