It was only a matter of time before I got a tan and made a summer sass fashion edit my darlings! I love how good a bit of sunshine makes me feel and in true British style, as soon as the thermometer hits fifteen degrees, the legs comes out, my bright nail varnish is on and I’m feeling catwalk ready thanks to my latest FemmeLuxe Finery shopping spree!
Snake print is the epitome of sassy and is a pretty hot statement this season, it’s also mischievously handy at covering up any lumps and bumps in problem areas of the body thanks to the distraction of the print detailing that you wouldn’t have with a block colour dress. Side splits are fast becoming one of my favourite fashion staples as they’re the perfect transition between mini to midi dresses taking you from day to evening wear in less than a second.
I also love the off-the-shoulder cuff detail of this dress and the fact that it makes my legs look and feel super long by exposing the top of the thigh and my otherwise intimate tattoos. Here I’m able to pull my lingerie all the way up to my hips to conceal it from the side split of this dress, but if you’re not feeling as brave as I am then I’d recommend wearing a set of complimentary colour hot pants beneath, perhaps in black or white.
Red is always a colour that puts an instant smile on my face whether it’s a rich red lipstick, dark red nails or red bottom Louboutins – in every shade it’s effortlessly sexy! Featuring a high neckline and full length sleeves this bodycon dress is all about maximising curves, creating a perfect silhouette and playfully swooping down in a diagonal cut to the knee.
It’s both covered and classy yet sexy and exciting at the same time and that’s a fine balance to find when looking for the perfect dress. Lightweight, breathable, stretchy and super comfortable to wear, this dress is a very welcome addition to my summer wardrobe.
I loved my snake print dress so much that I decided to get it again but this time in pink and I adore how much this bubblegum colour looks so good with a tan. I guess it’s the whole blonde hair, blue-eyed-girl wearing pink cliche that makes me channel my inner Barbie doll from my teens, but even as a grown woman pink can be an incredibly playful colour.
As this dress is soft and stretchy I’m able to wear it without a bra and it holds my cleavage happily in place without being too out-there which I much prefer over struggling with strapless bras that dig in and slip down.
Finally, another dress that I loved so much and had to get twice is this gorgeous lime ruched maxi which I already have in red. This is such a stand-out colour that scream summer in all of it’s glory, and teamed with the luxurious gathered fabric and floaty voile hem I feel like a Hollywood starlet with every swoosh of my step.
Whilst this colour may be bold it works perfectly with a tan and if you’re packing this in your suitcase for holiday wear then I’d certainly reserve it for one of your final nights when you’re beautifully bronzed and want to go out with a bang. Having a zip back fastening and bandeau bust it’s incredibly easy to put on and take off – essential qualities after a Cosmopolitan or too!
These have been some of my most fun and outrageous fashion statement pieces yet and have totally got me in the mood for summer for how bright and beautiful they are. If you’re thinking of brightening up your wardrobe before you’ve established your summer tan then I’d recommend starting with light pastel colours to compliment a fair skin tone, working your way up to something bolder and brighter as you bronze; failing a cloud-free sky of a weekend you could always reach for the bottle and treat yourself to a cheeky fake tan!
