When shopping for loved ones gift ideas it’s safe to say that 9/10 I accidentally end up spotting things that I’d love for myself instead and go slightly off track with a spontaneous shopping spree – I was actually browsing for 60th birthday gifts for my Mum when I came across the Old English Company who meticulously hand letter their goods which are all proudly made in England and are incredibly adorable.
My accidental shopping haul includes a pillow set, customised print, notebook and makeup bag as I’m currently halfway through my summer shop and couldn’t resist! My existing peach coloured makeup bag is rather big, stained with rogue glittered eyeshadow and inconveniently bulky as it’s filled to bursting point with cosmetics that I never use but can’t throw away just incase; so I found this machine washable black cotton ‘Hot mess’ pouch super practical as it can double as my holiday clutch, stash stationary for work and keep my makeup safe within my gym bag. Measuring 22cm x 16cm it’s the perfect width to easily store all of my makeup brushes or pens and the zip fastening means I’ll never have to worry about losing my bits and bobs whilst out and about again.
I chuckled to myself when I saw these big spoon little spoon pillow cases after having a scroll through the store. I’ve always been called Little Spoon because I’m partial to a snuggle or two and seeing as my bedroom is predominantly white and grey I thought I’d brighten my bed with this bold typographic print as it makes the ideal statement piece. Made from 100% cotton they’re beautifully soft, machine washable and highly fashionable in monochrome; being hand printed in England makes them all the more special and meaningful as text print is a contemporary alternative to using bright colours and patterns for soft furnishings.
I’m also a huge fan of notebooks, lists, notes and chalk boards which caused this ‘Just own it’ A5 notebook to catch my eye. Not only does it match my silver MacBook Pro but I seriously love the grey kraft recycled card cover which has a beautifully natural matte finish and inspiring words that make me smile each time that I see it. With 100 lined 100gsm white pages it’s a conveniently generous size and slips into my bag perfectly beside my reading book to take notes on the go and get my daily to-do list ta-da-done in no time!
Finally I couldn’t resist this adorable ‘I love you to the moon & back’ print which I was able to customise with my children’s names ‘Millisent & Gabriele’ at the bottom. I have so many photos of the children around the house but somehow I never thought of putting a meaningful typographic print in a frame to break up all of the colour and chaos. This phrase is something we say to each other on a daily basis and holds such love and meaning for us as a family and I literally had butterflies as I ordered it – which you can do with or without a personalised message. Made from thick 220gsm archival matte paper the print is ideal for putting into a picture frame, pinning to a notice board or freestanding on a desk.
Without realising it I think my accidental shopping spree has led to the ideal 60th birthday gift for Mum – a rather cheeky and adorably cheerful picture of the children and I telling her just how much we love her!
