SafeAgain is an app designed to prevent street harassment for women which is free for all to download on the App Store and Google Play. It offers features such as customisable signals, audio recording, location sharing and emergency services in order to help combat street harassment and ensure peace of mind for all women around the world. So, let’s take a closer look at how it works…

Making Women SafeAgain
Sadly as a teenager, woman and mother, I’ve been subjected to street harassment which has left me feeling extremely distressed and unsafe. From men getting onto an entirely empty train carriage and deciding to sit next to me, pinning me into a window seat and staring directly at me, to being followed home, touched inappropriately whilst walking in the street, wolf whistled and shouted at with crude remarks. Whether it’s from drunken party goers, people driving past, or trapped on public transport with nowhere to go; it can be very alarming and dangerous for a woman on her own to experience unwanted attention and harassment.
I worry terribly about my teenage daughter being subjected to the same treatment whilst out in public, as no female is truly safe by herself anymore, but fortunately there are steps that we can all take to protect ourselves and help others with a new free app called SafeAgain.
SafeAgain helps to fight street harassment by connecting you with other local, verified allies who can make sure that you’re safe when you’re facing uncomfortable situations and scenarios. I have always told my daughter to carry her house keys in her hand, instead of her bag or pocket, to defend herself, to cross the street if somebody is walking too closely to her, to stop (if other people are around) to pretend to tie her shoe or answer her phone so that anybody following her has to carry on walking past and reveal their identity to her.
Regardless of the fact that her phone hasn’t rung, my daughter knows to immediately put it to her ear and say very loudly “Hi, yes I’m here. You can see me? Where are you?” and start waving her arms in the air and looking about so that people realise somebody she knows is watching over her and she’s not alone. But the SafeAgain app goes one step further than a mothers love and best intentions, as it can send custom signals tailored to every unique situation. The app allows you to choose from a range of options, ensuring that you always have the right response immediately at your fingertips.
With its audio recording feature you can discreetly record all audio on your phone, providing crucial evidence in the case of an incident or harassment that you wish to be reported. With location sharing you can send a text message with your real-time location to your trusted friends or family, allowing them to monitor your whereabouts and ensure that you reach your destination safely.
You can also alert nearby women who will instantly receive a notification, and are all verified SafeAgain allies willing to step in, pretend to know you, call out your name and stop you from being alone. Male users are also able to be alerted in the alert nearby allies feature which allows all nearby allies to respond. All SafeAgain users in your area will have indicated their willingness to assist others in unsafe situations. They could be your own friends, neighbours, local business owners or complete strangers who must all go through a verification process – with mens applications being more rigorous.
The alert police feature is available for the most urgent situations, in which case SafeAgain will call the police immediately, ensuring a swift response to any threats or emergencies.

Keeping Users Safe & Informed Of Their Legal Rights
Every member who uses the app has to first provide their verified identity, phone number and selfie so that the true legal identity and appearance of every user is known. Any men have to be personally invited by a woman to join the app, and can only answer signals, not send them. Women are able to both send and answer signals should they wish to.
If yourself, or a woman nearby feel unsafe, you have to opportunity to assist. Once you accept the signal, her location and phone are shared with you so that you can make sure she’s safe as quickly as possible. Robust security features safeguard all personal information and locations, creating a trusted and secure environment for every user to only be accessed in times of need for nearby approved users – like a neighbourhood watch scheme that you can carry with you anywhere.
With the use of AI, you can also call an AI that will have a back and forth conversation with you which seems real. This works as a deterrent to others to show that you’re not alone and helps to dissuade any unwanted attention. You can also tell the app what happened, or is happening, and it will automatically generate legal advice and guidance for you, as the AI is trained on the legal system in your specific region.
Let Us Unite To Protect Women
With over 10,000 allies from all over the world, this free app is available in almost every major city in the world and you can help by sharing it with your friends, family, colleagues and on social media to raise awareness and save lives.
While SafeAgain works anywhere in the world, in order for the app to quickly connect you with allies in unsafe situations, there needs to be enough users on the app in your local area which is why they have a targeted launch city by city. Local volunteers in each city manually verify each member during the sign up process, and when a signal is sent, audio is recorded from both the device of the sender and the ally who answers the signal with data stored on secure servers around the world to keep all users safe.
Should any attempt be made to utilise SafeAgain for the purpose of men harassing women, the app possesses both the identity of the individual(s) involved and all substantial audio evidence necessary to take legal action to the maximum extent of the law which is incredibly reassuring to know.
SafeAgain are constantly updating the app with new features in order to keep users safe and guide women through the many challenges faced in our world. I have shared this app to all of the women I know and hope that they will do the same, causing a ripple effect of users to stand up for and support women in need. When travelling alone, commuting for work or waiting for my daughter to return home, I have the peace of mind to now know that no matter where we are, we are never alone as help is instantly at hand and justice will prevail. Together we are stronger and can hold perpetrators accountable to protect ourselves and prevent such situations from happening to others.
