I like to think that I’m well accustomed to a nice cocktail now that I’m approaching the big three-oh as my tastes have refined with age; my favourites being a nice punchy cosmopolitan, fruity elderflower mojito and smooth lychee martini. Although I’m usually on the receiving end of the bar as opposed to in the thick of it, I absolutely loved my mixology masterclass with Crush Cocktail Bars.
It’s really not often that you get the chance to learn from the experts, let alone drink alcohol whilst doing something fun which is why their corporate hospitality and team building events are so popular and their weddings literally go down in history! Did you know they served for Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan? Oh, and also ITV2 and Reveal Magazine too but who’s counting? When I was a teenager I worked in bars and clubs at weekends pulling pints and serving shorts but have literally no experience of cocktail making aside from mixing up the odd jug of Pimm’s in my garden with some cucumber, ice and strawberries but I doubt that really counts. Stepping behind their bar for which they have over twenty varieties to cater to mobile events nationwide, I felt happily at home and welcomed by the upbeat and charismatic staff.
Now I actually lost all track of time and forgot my own name by the end of it and my face still aches from laughing and smiling, but I had an absolute blast tasting my way through their punchy fashionable menu where they’ve taken my classic faves and updated them with a twist; from the Blu Lychee Martini a la James Bond style to mellow Cucumber Chills served in a kookie jam jar, a smooth Pineapple Crush with pineapple leaves to garnish and the rich and vibrant Summer Berry adorned with strawberries and blueberries. I had a flood of childhood memories from the Bubble-Gum Pop that was dusted with popping candy and the Candy Floss Martini looked incredible as it fizzled up and dissolved like a crazy science experiment. Not only was it divinely delicious to make and taste my way through their hand-selected menu but it was also a wonderful afternoon spent in great company, relaxing, laughing and brushing up on my hosting skills to totally wow my guests at my next dinner party.
We finished the session with a shot challenge which involved downing a row of shots taken from each of the cocktails with a wild card thrown in of neat rum that had my hair raising. In conversation somebody mentioned ‘The Game Changer’ which this curious little kitten couldn’t resist trying and it’s safe to say that after that blue bombshell I sang all the way home, ate my bodyweight in curry and fell asleep face down on my bed with a wicked smile on my face; it has to be done! Incredible cocktails, amazing staff and a fantastic atmosphere, now I just need to find myself a husband so that Crush Cocktail Bars can come and cater at my wedding!
