Blend Bros Spanish Tomato & Chorizo Protein Sauce

When it comes to fitness I love a nice protein shake after a sweaty workout to repair my muscles and take away the ache. Gone are the days when taking protein was purely reserved for a boring shaker and cold water as thanks to Blend Bros you can make your meals taste amazing whilst hitting your daily nutritional targets too with their delicious high-protein sauces.

Here I have a sample packet and single portion of their Spanish Tomato & Chorizo sauce which is suitable for vegetarians and vegans and free from artificial colours, flavours, preservatives and sweetners. Having being a vegetarian since the age of five and now converting to vegan I love how Blend Bros use pea protein in their sauces as it makes such a thick, smooth and creamy sauce.

I didn’t really know what to cook my sauce with as I’d imagine meat eaters might pour it over a chicken breast, joint of beef or smoked salmon perhaps, so I decided to make Mexican wraps with soya mince as the tomato sauce sounded like it would go well with salsa. I started by slicing up some sweet potatoes into chips and drizzling them in extra virgin olive oil with pine nuts before placing them in the oven at 200C for around twenty minutes whilst I prepared the mince. I roughly diced half a white onion, a chunk of green and yellow pepper, a couple of mushrooms, root ginger, garlic cloves and a red chilli which I fried off in a pan with a splash of extra virgin olive oil for a few minutes until they softened. I then added a handful of frozen soya mince and boiled the kettle for the protein sauce.

Just like making a shake I measured out 150ml of water, only instead of being cold it was freshly boiled, into which I stirred the 55g sachet of sauce mix. I then poured my instant sauce over my mince and vegetables and allowed it to simmer for a few minutes to thicken up and soak in. I served it on a flour tortilla with fresh spinach and salsa and it tasted out of this world. The sauce was beautifully fresh, uplifting and silky smooth complimenting the heat of my chillies and working wonderfully with the fresh spinach and sweet potato chips. For a fresh fitness friendly meal in just twenty minutes I love how handy the Blend Bros sauces are and they’re far more appetising and satisfying in winter than a cold boring shake on a grey afternoon. I’m still drooling at the thought of it!
