EBOO: Biohacking’s Best Kept Secret To Longevity

In the world of wellness and human optimisation, biohackers such as myself, are on a quest to take control of our natural biology to enhance physical and mental performance. With the advancement of science and cutting-edge therapies now at our fingertips, one treatment that has been gaining significant traction is Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation, or EBOO.

An advanced form of a broader practice known as ozone therapy, EBOO is being hailed as a powerful tool for anti-ageing, performance enhancement, and a deep-level systemic cleanse which athletes, gym-goers and everyday people can benefit from enormously. Let’s find out why…

What Is Ozone Therapy & EBOO?

Let’s kick things off with the science, shall we? Ozone (O3) is a highly reactive molecule made of three oxygen atoms. While ozone can be toxic if inhaled, when used in a controlled medical setting, it has therapeutic effects. Ozone therapy involves introducing medical-grade ozone into the body in various ways, such as through rectal insufflation, a sauna, or via intravenous (IV) infusion – for which the latter is what I had.

EBOO is a more sophisticated and potent form of IV ozone therapy, and is often described as “ozone dialysis” because it involves a closed-loop system that draws blood from the body, treats it, and then returns it. Much like how we filter chemicals from our drinking water, this is a similar process for our body. Here’s how it works:

  1. Blood Draw: A medical professional inserts a needle, usually in a vein in the arm, to draw blood.
  2. Filtration and Ozonation: The blood is passed through a specialised machine that filters it, removing cellular debris and impurities. Simultaneously, the blood is mixed with a controlled dose of medical-grade oxygen and ozone.
  3. Reinfusion: The ozonated and filtered blood is then returned to the body through a separate vein.

This continuous process allows a large volume of blood, up to 2-3 litres, to be treated in a single session, offering a more comprehensive and powerful treatment than traditional IV ozone therapy.

The Health Benefits Fuelling The Buzz

Proponents of EBOO and ozone therapy point to a wide range of potential health benefits, many of which align perfectly with the goals of the biohacking community.

  • Enhanced Oxygenation and Energy: Ozone therapy increases oxygen utilisation at the cellular level. By improving oxygen delivery to tissues and organs, it boosts energy production and combats fatigue. For biohackers and athletes focused on optimising their daily performance, this is a significant draw.
  • Immune System Modulation: Ozone is known to have antimicrobial properties as well as activating the immune system. By stimulating the production of immune cells and cytokines, ozone therapy helps the body to fight off infections and modulate inflammatory responses.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Chronic inflammation is a key driver of many diseases and is a major focus for those looking to optimise longevity. EBOO’s ability to reduce inflammatory markers and improve circulation can help to alleviate pain and support overall health.
  • Detoxification and Purification: The filtration component of EBOO is a major distinguishing feature. By actively removing impurities and debris from the blood, it supports the body’s natural detoxification pathways, such as those of the liver and kidneys. This deep clean is a core tenet of many biohacking protocols.
  • Anti-Aging and Longevity: The quest for longevity is a central pillar of biohacking. Ozone therapy combats a key cause of ageing: oxidative stress. By stimulating the body’s natural antioxidant defences and promoting cellular repair, it helps to slow the ageing process, leading to improved skin health, mental clarity and vitality.

Why Biohackers Are Choosing EBOO

The biohacking community is constantly seeking out cutting edge therapies that unlock a new level of human potential. EBOO fits this mould for several reasons:

  • Holistic and Systemic Approach: Unlike targeted treatments for a specific ailment, EBOO works on a systemic level, benefiting multiple biological processes at once. This aligns with biohacker’s desire for a comprehensive, full-body upgrade.
  • Performance and Recovery: Biohackers, particularly athletes and entrepreneurs, are always seeking to improve physical performance and accelerate recovery. The promises of increased energy, reduced inflammation, and faster healing from EBOO make it an attractive option for those pushing their bodies to the physical limits.
  • Technological Appeal: The EBOO machine itself, with its sophisticated filtration and ozonation process, embodies biohacker’s love innovative technology and its application to human biology. It’s a high-tech solution for a fundamental biological problem.
  • Beyond the Mainstream: Biohackers often embrace therapies that are not yet widely adopted by conventional medicine, leading the way in modern medicine. The fact that EBOO and ozone therapy are currently considered alternative, or complementary treatments, makes them even more intriguing to a community that values pushing boundaries and challenging the status quo.

My First EBOO Treatment

As EBOO treats a larger volume of blood than Ozone therapy alone, having Extracorporeal Blood Oxygenation and Ozonation is the most convenient way to gain optimal health results. Prior to having my first EBOO treatment I had a blood test to check my blood clotting, liver and kidneys for which a DNA profile can also be performed to measure the reduction in risk factors. There is also the option to have a course of EBOO, vitamin drip and peptide therapy throughout the year via a subscription for optimum health maintenance.

I’ve been attending Harley Street Medics for quite some time now, with a skin analysis test having exposed inflammation and poor circulation as part of the root cause of my rosacea, an hereditary skin sensitivity that I suffer from. Part of the treatment process for this, which already involves lasers, is to cleanse the blood in order to allow my sensitivities to reduce and my body to heal from within. And whilst this is a lifelong condition that I have, I can certainly reduce and maintain these symptoms better.

The added benefit of having EBOO to tackle the root cause of the rosacea in my face, is the systemic improvements that it also makes to my entire body, longevity and healthspan as a bodybuilder. I frequently push my body, mind and soul to the limit and love the sensation of feeling strong, capable and super human. Most people go through life aching, complaining, feeling okay at best, rarely understanding what it means to truly be alive, to thrive and feel amazing. Once you’ve tasted your human potential, it’s hard to ever settle for anything less or desire suffering and complaints.

I also have hEDS and IBS, Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which leave my body constantly inflamed and in pain. I’m aware that chronic inflammation leads to illness, disease and cancers if untreated, and so it’s at the forefront of my actions to constantly reduce this where possible. Thankfully as an athletic mother of two, I have a strong immune system, workout 7 days per week and rarely get sick, for which I attribute my biohacking lifestyle to this success.

It therefore made perfect sense to book in for an EBOO treatment as soon as the option became available in London. Just like having a blood test, this treatment simply involves inserting a needle into each arm in order to remove, cleanse and return the blood to the body in a continuous loop. It takes around an hour, in which time I remained seated on a dentist-style chair, and is entirely pain free, aside from a short sharp scratch of the needle being inserted.

As a visual person, I appreciated the process of seeing the physically cleansed blood change colour from a dark red as it left my vein, to a bright fresh red upon returning from the filter to my body. The filtration process cleanses and reenergises the blood at a cellular level, improving oxygen delivery to tissues, modulates the immune system and reduces oxidative stress. It provides a boost in energy, reduction in chronic inflammation, enhanced detoxification and balances the immune system, and as such can be used for chronic infections, certain autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue and conditions affecting blood flow.

When having Ozone therapy it’s important to start small and build up treatment time, and so I began with 10mins of Ozone within my EBOO treatment, which increases to 30mins in time. As I relaxed at my EBOO treatment, my blood was filtered to remove oxidants, heavy metals, microplastics, bacteria, fungus and viruses in the system, which many have used for covid and long covid symptoms, as its effectively a mini dialysis for the blood .

It’s recommended that you have 2-4 EBOO treatments in order to reach optimum blood levels, followed by maintenance at your own leisure depending on your environment and ongoing lifestyle factors. Its balancing of the immune system targets chronic inflammation, the foundation cause of rosacea, whilst restoring natural enzymes, improving mental functioning, clarity, athletic performance, muscle stamina and recovery from training.

Whilst EBOO cleanses the blood of undesirables, it also removes vitamin B which must be restore following treatment. Before the IV is removed post-treatment, the same line in then used to administer a Vitamin B complex drip. Something that I found fascinating about my treatment is the volume of the waste from my blood filtration. Being a health-conscious, vegan bodybuilder, you could be mistaken for thinking that I would have just a small amount of waste in my blood to remove. Whilst the average expected amount is around 200ml, my waste was 400ml which is shocking.

This was my first ever blood cleanse, I live in the countryside with fresh air and minimised pollution. I cook all meals at home from scratch, with very little processed foods in my diet. I exercise and lift weights daily, walk across hillsides, climb mountains meditate and manage my stress levels. I avoid sugar, do not smoke or drink alcohol more than a handful of times per year at special occasions, and yet here I am with almost double the blood waste of what you’d expect the average person to have, let alone somebody who is health conscious.

So what is the cause of this? Touching cleaning products with bare skin, wearing perfume and deodorant, excessive sun exposure, air pollution, pesticides, drinking tap water, consuming GM foods, ordering takeaways and exposure to microplastics, industrial work, dental fillings, smoking, sleep deprivation, obesity, injuries and medication. It is literally the a death from a thousand paper cuts, for which all of these risk factors I mindfully minimise. The most likely cause for me, aside from lifestyle factors, is my gluten intolerance and IBS causing the inflammation of my gut, and so gluten must be removed entirely from my diet without a stage reintroduction as I had been attempting.

Focusing upon removing gluten entirely from my diet now allows me to have my blood retested in order to see if my inflammation markers reduce, thereby helping to manage longterm side effects and improve my overall health. I was advised that the side effects of having an EBOO treatment may include fatigue and mild flu like symptoms, for which I experienced the most beautiful sleep of my life following my late-afternoon to early-evening treatment. As I can be a restless sleeper, it was incredible to have a knock-out sleep when I returned home, and after a busy week I’m unsure of whether my sheer workload or EBOO treatment caused this response, but either way it was very welcome.

I haven’t experienced any flu like symptoms since my treatment, just the desire to have a very deep, relaxed and restorative sleep directly after. Today I am back to routine and hit the gym with such energy, enthusiasm and drive, I feel absolutely amazing. A weight has been lifted from my shoulders to not only know that I have removed such a sheer volume of waste from my blood, but also taken preventative healthcare steps to minimise my risk factors surrounding illness, disease and cancer. Instead of waiting for symptoms to progress to the point of getting sick and visiting a GP to be added to a waiting list that may take weeks, months or even years to receive a diagnosis or treatment, having the information and education at our fingertips surrounding our health saves lives because prevention will always be better than cure.

We can remove the excessive medical costs, waiting times, unnecessary suffering and risk to our life by being proactive with our health to prevent sickness, which in turn supports the NHS, taxpayers, our healthspan and longevity alike. It’s far easier to nurture a healthy immune system as a foundation of a healthy lifestyle, than to go through potential surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy from cancers at great expense and pain, along with taking a year out of work to recover, if recovery is even possible.

We have to look far deeper than the surface, and not simply presume that a slim, young or physically strong person is safe from illness and disease. Toxins, microplastics and chemicals do not discriminate, we are all at risk and must consciously choose not to play roulette with our lives. As with myself, what you see on the surface of a healthy and strong individual isn’t always an accurate indication of what silent health risks lurk beneath, and I’m so thankful to have found them.

If you are considering having an EBOO treatment, I strongly recommend that you consult with a qualified medical professional to take an in-depth look at your individual lifestyle and blood markers, before and after having a treatment, as part of an ongoing longevity optimisation plan. We can not only add years to our life through biohacking, but life to our years!
