As a mother of two, I know all too well how devastating the side effects of sleep deprivation can be on my entire day; sleep is essential for both our physical and mental health. When we sleep, our bodies and minds can rest and repair themselves. Getting enough sleep is therefore important for our overall health, wellbeing, and performance. Let’s take a closer look at why…

When we don’t get enough sleep, it’s somewhat of an understatement to say that our bodies and minds suffer. A lack of sleep can lead to a number of negative health consequences:
- Impaired cognitive function: A ack of sleep can make it difficult to focus, concentrate and remember things. It can also lead to poor decision-making and increased risk-taking.
- Mood changes: A lack of sleep can make us irritable, anxious and depressed.
- Weakened immune system: A lack of sleep can make us more susceptible to illness.
- Increased risk of chronic diseases: A lack of sleep has been linked to an increased risk of obesity, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer.
- Increased risk of accidents: Lack of sleep can impair our reaction time and coordination, making us more likely to be clumsy and have accidents.
Why Getting 8 Hours of Sleep Each Night Is Important
Most adults need around 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night, as getting this amount of sleep allows our bodies and minds to fully rest and repair themselves. Here are some tips to help you to get a good night’s sleep:
- Establish a regular sleep schedule: Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, even on weekends.
- Create a relaxing bedtime routine: Take a warm bath, read a book, or listen to calming music before bed.
- Make sure your bedroom is dark, quiet, and cool as these conditions are most conducive to sleep.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol before bed: These substances can interfere with sleep.
- Get regular exercise: Exercise can help you to fall asleep more easily, but avoid exercising too close to bedtime.
- See a doctor if you have trouble sleeping: There may be an underlying medical condition that is causing your insomnia.

Kloris Sleep Patches
Something that I discovered recently are the all natural formula sleep patches by Kloris which support healthy and restorative sleep, diminish the symptoms of jet lag and don’t leave you feeling groggy when you wake up. During busier and more stressful periods of my life, and when I have looming work deadlines, my mind can remain over active at bedtime and I struggle to fall asleep, let alone stay asleep all night to feel rested by morning. So a little research into a more natural solution led me to try sleep patches.
The Keloris deep sleep patches are designed for adults with natural extracts of valerian, passionflower and hops. They help you to fall asleep faster, improve your sleep quality and reduce jet lag. You simply stick a patch onto your bare skin half an hour before going to bed and let nature take its course.
Each clear sleep patch is formulated with a hypoallergenic adhesive activated by your natural body heat, allowing the active ingredients to be steadily delivered to your body throughout the whole night. Using a patch, rather than a tablet or spray, provides better bioavailability – essentially meaning the delivery method of the ingredients is highly efficient. I pop the patches onto my wrist as this is an area without hair, and against my tattoos it’s literally invisible.

The natural ingredients of the patches target difficulty sleeping, as well as sleep disorders, without the groggy side effects of conventional sleep aids such as hormone-based solutions like melatonin. The key ingredients in the patches are:
- Valerian: Valerian root improves the ability to fall asleep, stay asleep and achieve high-quality sleep in adults and children with insomnia and other sleep disorders.
- CBD (10mg): By helping your Endocannabinoid system reach and maintain balance, CBD can potentially decrease symptoms of insomnia and help you get more quality sleep.
- CBG (5mg): Cannabigerol (CBG) is another potent non psychoactive cannabinoid from the hemp plant which interacts with the ECS.
- Passionflower: Passionflower helps to relieve insomnia and anxiety. It boosts the level of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in your brain. This compound lowers brain activity, which may help you to relax and sleep better.
- Hops: Commonly used orally for anxiety, insomnia, disturbed sleep, restlessness, tension, ADHD, nervousness and irritability.
Each biodegradable sleep patch lasts between 8-10 hours before you peel it off in the morning and pop it into your compost or household recycling. Whilst different sleep methods may work better for some than others, it’s certainly worth giving patches a try. For my first experience of using my sleep patch I slept like a baby, found it far easier to relax, switch off my mind and achieve a deep a restful sleep.
Whether it’s the placebo effect of knowing you have a helping hand, or having found the perfect combination of effective ingredients, I’m thrilled to be filled with energy and enthusiasm for my day ahead after an amazing nights sleep. Getting enough quality sleep is essential for our health and wellbeing, so aim to get 7 – 8 hours each night, and if you have trouble sleeping, please consider talking to your doctor or seeking a helping hand from nature.
