Next Grey Faux Fur Cape

Capes are a massive AW14 trend right now and carry an effortless air of timeless elegance and class with them. They are both iconic and practical, a fashion statement and a girls best friend on a chilly winters day. I have just one poncho in my wardrobe and find it difficult to manoeuvre as it flails in front of you when you lean forward, tangles your arms and can leave you a hot and sweaty mess. The cape is therefore a tidier, more practical and stylish sibling of the poncho and the ultimate style statement this season.

Next Grey Faux Fur Cape

Here I am wearing the Next Grey Faux Fur Cape in a size Small. As it is made from 52% acrylic, 34% cotton and 14% polyester, it is very soft and warming to the touch with a gentle stretch. The thick diagonal knit provides perfect coverage from cold winds and the chilly winter air, whilst allowing your body temperature to remain constant beneath without the discomfort of sweating.

The high faux fur neckline is soft and sumptuous, protecting you from the cold like a scarf and keeping you far warmer than a jumper. Two fluffy grey tassels allow you to tighten or loosen the neck allowing you to moderate the coverage and warmth as you go from indoor to outdoor; hanging to waist height they also add a vertical focal point which helps to draw the eye inward and slim the piece.

There are two contrasting black leather lined arm holes, one on either side, for your elbows and forearms. The arm holes allow you to keep your torso covered without compromising on mobility which is fantastic. I find the cape so much easier to wear than a poncho, as it keeps me beautifully warm without hindering my daily activities. It makes a change from a chunky long coat or over-hot jumper which I often have to roll back long sleeves to cool down. You can wear the cape over a long-sleeve if you prefer, however I like to wear it on its own, should my arms get chilly I simply slip them back inside.

Here I have teamed my cape with black wetlook leggings to tie in with the arm holes and a pair of black suede wedge boots. I love the informal elegance of the cape and the neutral grey colour makes it incredibly easy to wear for all occasions. Whether you want to wear it alone as a jumper or to take off as jacket the cape has the style and versatility to be both, and for just £35.00 from Next it’s an affordable and essential wardrobe staple for all this season.
