Being vegan I’m a huge fan of taste, texture, flavour and spice and love discovering little hidden gems and independent foodies at markets and festivals. I happened upon Funky Elephant totally by chance when the hypnotic fragrance of spice caught my senses whilst walking home from the gym and my feet literally turned me on the spot and marched themselves to the vibrant stall.
Funky Elephant’s ethos is centred upon handmade, loving, quality sauces, marinades, rubs and bases using punchy flavours, authentic spices, fresh vegetables and healthy Indian/Carribean dishes. Everything is lovingly produced by hand in small batches to ensure freshness, quality and mouth-watering flavours throughout and the hearty-sized snack pots are absolutely to die for!
Proudly producing food that is vegan, dairy free, nut free, gluten free, with no additives, no preservatives, low in fat salt sugar and calories and healthy with locally sourced authentic ingredients there are a wide selection of meat options also available to suit every taste and heat preference. My grab and go lentil pot for lunch was reasonably priced and packed full of Puy lentils in a creamy rich masala sauce with plump rice, crisp salad and mini popadoms creating a feast for the senses from hot and spicy to cool, fresh and juicy with a savoury crunch. Just typing this I’m actually salivating as I smile.
I couldn’t resist also trying their vegan Jerk Marinade Paste and Methi Sauce pots which can be poured over grilled meat and vegetables for an instantly healthy meal at home. They’ll keep in the fridge for three months and should be consumed within 3-5 days of opening; although I’m sure it’s highly unlikely that they’ll last 3-5 minutes once they hit my plate. A brand after my own heart and regular hotspot now for this very happy vegan!
