Muscle Food High Protein Chicken & Pepper Pizza

Pizza. Can we just take a second to let that thought sink in. A crunchy fluffy base, succulent meat, thick stringy cheese and lashings of grease. But boy oh boy doesn’t it taste good! The ultimate cheat day of the century and more calories than you can shake a stick at. It’s such a shame that being healthy doesn’t seem to cover the ability to speed dial Dominoes. But thanks to Muscle Food there just so happens to be a guilt-free pizza that won’t add wobble to your waistline.

The macro friendly pizza range at Muscle Food provides high protein, high fibre and low carbs gluten free pizza in a variety of healthy and delicious toppings. Each stone baked pizza is made using only the finest ingredients and packed frozen in a chilled contain to deliver directly to your door, which needs to be eaten within five days if kept chilled or three months if frozen. Here I’ve served a chargrilled chicken breast, roasted peppers, spinach, mozzarella and rich Mediterranean tomato sauce pizza to my hungry meat-eater guests, as I nibble on my vegan friendly celery stick and drool with jealousy. Such torture!

The artisanal 10 inch pizza is nutrient packed with a soy free base that claims to taste just as delicious as regular pizza without being dry or crumbly. Each slice provides 8.5g of protein, 3.7g of carbs, 2.4g of fat and only 72.6 calories with a whopping 67g of protein per pizza, half the calories, a quarter of the fat and a fifth of the carbs of regular pizza. Now that’s something to sweat to next time you hit the gym, as an entire protein pizza is less than 600 calories as well as being high in fibre.

I cooked my pizza from frozen at 180C in the oven for just 12mins until the base and chicken turned a light golden brown, before slicing it into quarters and serving it to my meat-eating post workout friends for a high protein snack. Seeing as I don’t eat meat I had to rely on their panel of opinions in order to write this review, and from where I was standing it was pretty distracting to see them licking their lips, biting the stringy warm cheese and ooh’ing and ahh’ing. In fact I’m still drooling now.

After many pain staking minutes of observing the sheer joy of others eating a delicious guilt-free pizza the results were in! And I think the post meal grins say it all. The base is thin and crisp, much like a tear and share flat bread making it great for eating with your hands and rolling up if that’s how you like your pizza. It’s slightly soft yet crisp creating a nice variety in texture without being oily or greasy at all. The cheese is extremely satisfying for cravings with sweet peppers, smooth spinach and succulent chicken breasts that is surprisingly filling and certainly worthy of being a meal on its own without the need for sides. Although it doesn’t taste quite as naughty as a deep dish greasy dripping take out, it’s a fantastic at home healthy alternative to scratch the itch of cravings and enjoy the tastes and textures of long denied junk food without the guilt, and for that it gets a big thumbs up. Hallelujah for Muscle Food!
