If you’ve found yourself scrolling through the skincare side of social media, then you’ve no doubt heard about a new secret ingredient that fixes everything from stubborn acne to sudden eczema flare-ups: Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl).

While it sounds like an intimidating chemical, it’s actually a molecule that our own white blood cells naturally produces to fight off bacteria, reduce inflammation and heal the skin. Think of it as your body’s built-in defence system, bottled up to give your skin barrier a massive helping hand.
Kanzen Skincare has taken this superhero molecule and built two of their foundation products around it: the HypoSoothe Cream and the HypoSilk Serum which I’ve been so excited to get my hands onto. So, if your skin is currently battling redness, breakouts, or irritation like mine, then this duo may be just what you need.

The Calm After The Storm: HypoSoothe Cream
I feel like we’ve all tried an amazing new product, only for the weather to change, and suddenly your face feels hot, tight and angry all over again. Traditional moisturisers often contain heavy oils or fragrances that only make the irritation worse, especially for those with sensitive skin like mine.
This expert formulation targets the underlying inflammation rather than just masking it, by combining the antimicrobial, redness-reducing power of hypochlorous acid with a lightweight, deeply hydrating base. Targeting the bad bacteria that causes acne and aggravates eczema, without stripping the skin’s natural microbiome, it feels incredibly comforting the second that it touches my skin.
I love that it melts in quickly, leaves no greasy film behind and makes my skin feel hydrated whilst still being able to breathe. Suitable for anyone dealing with acne, rosacea, eczema, or skin that is recovering from a slightly over-enthusiastic chemical peel, it is a total reset button compacted into each tiny pea-sized amount.

A Silky Shield: HypoSilk Serum
Whilst the cream is a soothing blanket, the HypoSilk Serum is a daily shield. Serums are designed to deliver active ingredients deeper into our skin, and this one focuses entirely on barrier repair and protection.
Using a highly stable form of hypochlorous acid, it forms a microscopic protective layer over the skin to defend against environmental pollutants, sweat-induced bacteria and day-to-day irritants, which is ideal for my post-workout skin that easily irritates when hot and sweaty.
True to its name, it has a gorgeous, silky glide as the serum is applied, absorbing almost instantly ahain, whilst making a perfect layer under my morning SPF or makeup. It doesn’t pill, and also doesn’t leave me looking shiny or greasy.
For those with blemish-prone or highly reactive skin, who need a daily preventative step to keep breakouts and flare-ups at bay before they even start, I couldn’t recommend this more highly.

Because hypochlorous acid is incredibly biocompatible, our body recognises it and knows exactly what to do with it. As a result of this, these hero products play beautifully with other ingredients as I slip them between my morning cleanse and daily sunscreen application.
having rosacea and dry, combination skin that easily burns can make summer time a bit of a minefield for taking care of my complexion without causing damage. Turning to calming products with high quality ingredients is the best way to cut out unnecessary side effects or symptoms, and allow my skin to look and feel its natural best, whatever the season.
